Yes, he certainly shed tears during an odd, awkward acceptance speech delivered shortly after assaulting Rock (where he apologized to the Academy among others but not Rock), but he also smiled and laughed throughout the rest of the evening, then reportedly partied after the show. As disturbing as the assault itself might have been, Smith’s cavalier, casual return to his seat to enjoy the rest of the show seemed equally cringe-worthy.
